Thursday links — Donald Butler a first-rounder?

Is Donald Butler a potential first-rounder? That, and news of some legal trouble for Syracuse RB Delone Carter and more, in the links:
— The Sporting News has a detailed breakdown of Butler and projects him as a first-round pick, and also calls him the best inside linebacker available and the best in man pass coverage.
— News breaking out of Syracuse today that running back Delone Carter, who gained 1,021 yards last season, has been charged with assult for an incident that happened in February. Interestingly, ESPN.com just published this story this morning detailing how Carter decided not to enter the NFL Draft to come back to lead a potentially solid group of Orange RBs this season. Syracuse comes to UW on Sept. 11.
— Times college sports columnist Bud Withers looks at all that’s gone wrong at Oregon of late.
Ken Goe of The Oregonian says Oregon’s passing numbers at its scrimmage yesterday have to be a concern, while he also has his daily Pac-10 links.
— ESPN has a story on California high school QB Conner Preston, who is getting some interest from UW and also compares his “passing mentality” to that of Jake Locker.
— Uh oh, another BYU quarterback update on the horizon. But this may be the last one for a while as ESPN.com has a good breakdown of the position now that BYU’s spring practice is over.
— The NCAA made a couple of football-related rules changes today, including outlawing players writing messages in their eye black. Also, taunting during a scoring play could result in the score being nullified beginning in 2011.
All for now.
