Friday links — and live chat at noon

I’ve wanted to try to do two live chats throughout spring practice, so we’ll have another one today at noon. But due to some other commitments today, will just be for one hour, so I may start it a few minutes before noon then call it a wrap at 1 p.m.
Now for some links. …
— I wrote today about Jake Locker and how he felt a measure of vindication last night seeing Sam Bradford get picked first in the draft. The potential of injury was a reason many felt Locker should leave UW after last season. He said seeing what happened with Bradford indicates it’s not that big of a risk. Interestingly, NFL draft analyst Rob Rang told me the same thing last fall before Locker made his decision — that it would take something really catastrophic (basically, career-ending) to really matter in terms of the draft.
Bud Withers wrote today about new WSU offensive line coach Steve Morton, who also spent seven years at Washington. The story notes that Morton still uses some of what he learned from Don James.
Danny O’Neil wrote about UW’s draft drought likely ending today when Donald Butler could get picked (Mel Kiper has him going in the middle of the second round today). Daniel Te’o-Nesheim should also be taken either today or tomorrow.
— The Sacramento Bee has a few quotes from Butler. (I talked with Te’o-Nesheim the other day and will have some of that in a story later today).
— The news in this story actually seems kind of buried — and maybe I’m burying it here. But the LA Times reports that Pac-10 comissioner Larry Scott said that any decision on expanding the conference will be made by the end of the year. Maybe I’m wrong, but that seems like the first real explicit timetable I’ve heard for making a decision. Word has been that the momentum is moving against expansion at the moment and that any expansion wouldn’t happen for a while.
— ESPN recruiting guru Greg Biggins has a little note on linebacker Trey Madden of Mission Viejo, Calif., who says that his only offer at the moment is from UW. That’s the same school where OL Michael Criste, who signed with UW in February, played.
All for now.
