Saturday links — track stars, and Miller looks at UW’s most competitive position

Feels like football season in Seattle as I type this. …
— ESPN.com’s Ted Miller, in his series on A-list position battles in the Pac-10, examines the competition for UW’s strongside OLB spot between Alvin Logan, Victor Aiyewa and Matt Houston.
— His mailbag also has items on the possibility of a Pac-10 title game, and a letter from UW president Mark Emmert clearing up his choice of ride around campus.
— The district track roundup from our paper today has items on Kasen Williams (who won the long jump and high jump) and Ben Riva (who won the discus).
— UW signee Lawrence Lagafuaina won the state boys shot put in Hawaii last week at 56-4, while the son of former Husky center Bern Brostek, Shane Brostek, was third. Both also placed in the discus. Brostek is a sophomore who will be a big-time recruit in a few years (and obviously has strong UW ties). Here’s a story from a year ago that has some other info on Brostek. Also note that Taz Stevenson was 10th in the 200 at 23.28.
— UW signee Gregory Ducre ran a 48.89 in the 400 at the LA City Section track prelims.
— UW signee Princeton Fuimaono is expected to play in an all-star game in Cerritos on June 5.
— Sigenee Andrew Hudson was recently a finalist for a local honor combining athletic and off-field achievements.
All for now.
