Beavers settle quarterback battle the hard way

Some interesting Pac-10 news surfacing out of Oregon State today where backup QB Peter Lalich is leaving the team in the wake of a suspension for a recent boating DUI arrest.
Here are some details.
While Lalich, a transfer from Virginia, was the backup out of spring, it was thought he could still compete for the starting job in the fall.
Instead, with Lalich no longer in the picture, head coach Mike Riley made it official today that OSU’s starter will be sophomore Ryan Katz, who earned raves in the spring for the strength of his arm, but hasn’t played other than mop-up duty in four games last season.
The backup will now be redshirt freshman Cody Vaz, meaning the Beavers go in a year from having about as much experience at QB as anyone in the conference to about the least.
IN OTHER NEWS. …
— CoachSark’s blog has some details on UW’s Blitz the Sound project today.
Pat Tillman was one of three former Pac-10 players named to the College Football Hall of Fame today. Here’s more on the Class of 2010 from ESPN.com and from The Sporting News.
All for now.
