The latest news and analysis on the Montlake Dawgs.

Thursday links — is the day of reckoning coming for USC?

Whatever happens at USC obviously could have great impact on the rest of the Pac-10, and thus has great interest among fans of all the other schools.
And it sounds again as if there should be news in the next day or so.
And if Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports — the organization that had the lead in breaking some of the more significant aspects of this story — is correct, the Trojans are about to get hit hard.
Robinson has a slew of Tweets on his Twitter page today indicating that not only will the findings be released Friday but that the sanctions will be severe, writing in one that “I think NCAA will hammer them” and that it will be the “worst penalties in decades. Book it.”
ESPN.com’s Ted Miller, however, writes that he doesn’t expect the NCAA to give USC major penalties.
There are also reports today that the Heisman Trust could review soon whether to strip Reggie Bush of his trophy.
If USC truly receives notice of the penalties today, word could start to leak out, which could make this an interesting 24 hours or so in the Pac-10.
IN OTHER NEWS. …
— If you’re wondering if any USC news would make Cody Kessler change his mind, he’s quoted in this story in the Bakersfield Californian saying none of that was/is a factor in his decision. The story also details just how close he was to committing to UW.
Greg Biggins has a short story on the commitment of WR Jamaal Jones to UW last month, noting that he was “dominant in the Nike Camp in Oregon last month” and calling him the best WR prospect in the Northwest this year other than Kasen Williams.
— The Heisman Pundit wonders if recruiting rankings aren’t a little biased toward the SEC states.
Berry Tramel of The Oklahoman breaks down non-conference schedules and concludes that the Pac-10 plays the toughest of any conference.
Tony Parrish was the only Husky taken in the UFL Draft Wednesday.
Stewart Mandel of SI.com analyzes how close UW is to returning to elite status in his latest mailbag.
