Tuesday links — Kasen Williams tells ESPN.com “I’m open to everyone”

Not seeing any significant definitive news today on expansion, so I’ll start with some recruiting.
Greg Biggins, in an Insider story on ESPN.com, has updates on a trio of Washington products OLs Zach Banner (Lakes) and Josh Garnett (Puyallup) for the Class of 2012, and WR Kasen Williams (Skyline) for the Class of 2011.
Since it’s an Insider story, I’m not going to cut and paste it.
But I’ll point out some highlights, the most telling of which for UW fans may be that Williams told Biggins that he will soon cut his list of schools to 10. UW figures to be on the list, but Williams is quoted as saying that he plans to take a number of unofficial visits this summer, including to Notre Dame, Arkansas and LSU.
And of UW, he says that “I know a lot of people think I’m a lock to Washington because my parents went there but I’m open to everyone. I wouldn’t be taking these visits in the summer if I already knew where I was going.”
So sounds as if UW still has some work to do to secure the services of Williams, not only the top WR recruit in the state this year, but likely to be judged No. 1 overall.
As for Banner, he says that he and Garnett “are like best friends” and could easily end up choosing the same school, and that UW “is very high our list.” But with the duo just ending their sophomore year of high school, any commitment still seems far in the offing.
IN OTHER NEWS. …
— Notre Dame suddenly seems to be the spotlight team in all the expansion talk, with some conjecture that if it were to join the Big 10, that conference would cap its members at 12 and that could prevent the dominoes from falling and mean the Pac-10 wouldn’t become the Pac-16. Here’s a good breakdown of the situation from The New York Times, and also note the line that Texas, if it had its way, would likely rather just stay put in the Big 12.
— Orange Bloods.com has more on Notre Dame’s importance in all of this.
Jon Wilner says a lot of what’s happened should have been obvious once the Pac-10 hired Kevin Weiberg in February.
— SportsByBrooks also breaks down the latest expansion news, noting that there’s a reason many/almost all of the leaks on this seem to be coming from Texas.
— So far today, no rumblings of any imminent announcement from USC. No one thinks it will come tomorrow (Wednesday) as that’s the day the NCAA is scheduled to announce its latest APR numbers for all schools.
— GoHuskies.com has an update on the three UW alums playing in the CFLKai Ellis, Cody Pickett and Joe Lobendahn. Regular season games begin Sunday.
All for now.
