UW AD Woodward on today’s news

I also had a chance today to speak with UW athletic director Scott Woodward about today’s two big pieces of college athletic news — the addition of Colorado to the Pac-10 and penalties levied against USC.
Woodward said that adding Colorado is a “win-win all-around” saying that the school is a “great fit, both academically and athletically. It’s a great university in a great media market.”
But he also said the time to really assess expansion is once it’s all done as signs point to further moves in the coming days.
Woodward wouldn’t talk specifically about what those may be but said that “I trust that (Pac-10 commissioner) Larry (Scott) is going to guide us in a very productive fashion and I like what I see so far.”
As for USC, Woodward said: “It’s always sad to see a member institution get punished for violations. I don’t know enough about the details to judge or opine one way or the otherm but it’s unfortunate and it’s tough.”
Woodward said he never had any worry that UW coach Steve Sarkisian — an assistant at USC for seven years under Pete Carroll — would show up in the NCAA’s report. Sarkisian was not mentioned.
“He had no involvement,” Woodward said. “That was the least of my concerns. I just feel sorry for an institution when things go bad and hope that everything works itself out going forward.”
