In the kind of twist that makes sense given the way this has gone, it is the Pac-10 now making it official that the Big 12 is staying together.
Here’s an official statement from Pac-10 commissioner Larry Scott released just a few minutes ago:
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. — “University of Texas President Bill Powers has informed us that the 10 remaining schools in the Big 12 Conference intend to stay together. We are excited about the future of the Pac-10 Conference and we will continue to evaluate future expansion opportunities under the guidelines previously set forth by our Presidents and Chancellors.”
So that’s that for the Pac-16.
Now it’s on to the likely Pac-12. Sources continue to indicate that the conference will likely add Utah, and soon. And talking to several sources in the last few hours, all indications are that the conference will split into divisions and have a conference championship football game. (I know that’s counter to something I wrote earlier so want to make clear that I know think that’s the way it would go, though sounds as if the details are still far in the offing).
