Wednesday morning links — More on the end of expansion and Pac-10 transfer rules

Still no official word on Utah coming to the Pac-10 this morning, though no one doubts it is likely to soon happen.
So until then, more rehash on the end of the Pac-16, and a few other notes:
— Times columnist Bud Withers ponders whether Texas played hardball or dirty in its dealings with the Pac-10.
— Orangebloods.com, meanwhile, breaks down in pretty exhaustive detail how the Big 12 came back to life. A couple of its points — Texas felt the Pac-10 was changing some of the rules of the game as it went along, specifically wanting to swap out Oklahoma State in favor of Kanas; Texas was nervous about splitting from longtime rival Texas A&M; and ABC/ESPN didn’t want to lose Texas to FOX. Chip Brown also refers to Larry Scott as a “wheeler-dealer” commissioner at one point. Considering he’s surely getting most of his info straight from the higher-ups at Texas, sounds as if the two sides may have also just grown distrustful of each other as the negotiations continued.
— In case you missed it yesterday, Oklahoma State leading booster T. Boone Pickens made it clear he wanted nothing to do with the Pac-10.
— ESPN.com clarifies the exit fees for the Big 12 teams that left, and says it will be evenly distributed among the remaining teams.
— The Oklahoman breaks down how uncompetitive the Big 12 is likely to be now from top to bottom and wonders if there’s any way it can fill eight bowl slots come 2013.
— The Salt Lake Tribune clarifies that Pac-10 transfer rules apply immediately to teams that enter the conference, meaning if a USC player transfers to Colorado (or Utah once that happens) he has to sit out a year.
— WSU AD Bill Moos held a live chat with the Times on Tuesday and says it remains unclear how a 12-member conference will be divided and that his goal is to put WSU in a position where it will be left to UW to figure out how to catch the Cougars.
— Finally, here’s Danny O’Neil’s story about Pete Carroll’s comments yesterday on the USC sanctions.
All for now.
