Armelin leaves for academic reasons

UW football coach Steve Sarkisian confirmed tonight that backup offensive tackle Mark Armelin has left the program for academic reasons.
Armelin, from Canoga Park, Calif., would have been a junior this fall,
He had seen sparing action in his UW career (playing last season only in mop-up duty against WSU) and was fighting for a second-team tackle spot throughout the spring.
The competition will only get more intense up front as the Huskies will welcome seven offensive linemen for fall camp, including James Atoe, who at one point was thought possibly to delay enrollment for a year.
Instead, since UW appears likely to be right at the 85-player scholarship limit, Atoe can come on board now.
Here’s how the OL depth chart looks without Armelin.
POST-SPRING DEPTH CHART
LT — Senio Kelemete, Jr./Skyler Fancher, Jr.
LG — Ryan Tolar, Sr./Scott Shugert, Jr.
C — Drew Schaefer, So./Greg Christine, Sr.
RG — Mykenne Ikehara, So./Nick Wood, Jr./
RT — Cody Habben, Sr./Daniel Kanczugowski, So. or Skyler Fancher, Jr.
NEWCOMERS ARRIVING IN THE FALL
Erik Kohler, OT; James Atoe, OT; Mike Criste, OT; Colin Porter, G; Ben Riva, OT; Colin Tanigawa, C-G; Micah Hatchie, OT.
That gives UW 15 apparent scholarship OLs for the fall (not counting Christine and Kanczugowkski, each initially walk-ons, with those scholarships awarded on a year-to-year basis).
Players are back in town this week for the beginning of summer school and the off-season conditioning program and sounds as if everyone else is enrolled and ready to go.
