Friday links — expansion, Lincoln Kennedy, Cody Pickett and more

Some really good stuff from Bud Withers in his piece today on the addition of Utah to the Pac-10.
Withers talked with Pac-10 commissioner Larry Scott yesterday afternoon after the press conference in Utah, and Scott said again that no decision had been made yet on how to split up the divisions in the conference, and specifically refuted a quote from Colorado AD Mike Bohn earlier this week that CU had been placed in the South as a condition of entering the conference.
Scott told Withers that “it’s not part of our agreement.” Scott said he expected the issue to be settled sometime this summer.
Few doubt that the North-South approach may be how the conference ultimately goes — hard to figure too many other approaches, especially if the so-called Zipper approach (splitting down the middle) has “no traction,” as Ted Miller reported earlier this week. Still, despite some other reports out there, Scott and others in the conference (including UW AD Scott Woodward, also quoted in the article) are adamant that no decision has been made yet.
Scott also told Withers there was no truth to a report that the Pac-10 tried to switch out Oklahoma State in favor of Kansas.
IN OTHER NEWS. …
— Scott also reiterated that no decision had been made yet to the Salt Lake Tribune in a blog item in which he says all of the schools have not yet been given a chance “to express all the considerations they have.”
— The Denver Post notes today it’s still uncertain whether Colorado will enter in 2011 or 2012. Utah will definitely enter in 2011.
— The Orlando Sentinel asks which is the best conference in the country now, and doesn’t seem to think much of the Pac-10.
— Forget to post this yesterday, but the Tampa Bay Storm of the Arena Football League has signed former Husky Lincoln Kennedy.
— Former Husky QB Cody Pickett, recently released by Toronto of the CFL, signed this week with Calgary.
— ESPN,com is hosting a rather lengthy live chat today to talk about expansion.
All for now.
