USC files appeal of sanctions

As expected, USC has filed an official appeal of the sanctions levied against the school a couple of weeks ago.
ESPN.com’s Ted Miller has the details, and notes that USC is asking for its bowl ban to be cut to one year, and the scholarship reductions to five each of the three years instead of 10 each year.
Also of note is that USC says that pending the appeal, it will take one year of its bowl ban in 2010, apparently meaning if the appeal is successful then it would be eligible again in 2011. Saying they will take at least one year of the bowl ban this year means that obviously there is almost no chance the Trojans would be eligible for the Pac-10 title in 2010.
It also looks like USC is attempting to get around the one drawback of filing an appeal, which is to delay the implementation of the penalties. Looks like USC will take the bowl ban this year while the appeal is fought, and hope that if it is successful it will be eligible again in 2011. If not, then 2011 would be the final year of the bowl ban.
