Locker explains thumb injury, UCLA boots three players, and QB update

A couple quick links of interest to pass along:
— First, as part of Jake Locker’s recent national media blitz, is this question-and-answer with Fanhouse.com. Most interesting is his explanation of the injury that prevented him from playing baseball this summer. Locker explained that shortly after spring ball he had “a couple of pins” taken out of his thumb, apparently leftover from the 2008 surgery following his season-ending injury that season. He says the thumb is good to go now. The Angels recently said that the injury was why Locker was not able to play for one of their minor league teams this summer.
— Also today, UCLA has dismissed the three incoming freshmen who were arrested over the weekend on suspicion of felony theft, including two players who visited UW — LB Josh Shirley and CB Shaquille Richardson (here’s the official release from the school). Those who followed Rick Neuheisel’s time at UW realize this appears to be a harsher stance on discipline then he usually displayed here, though without knowing everything behind the scenes always tough to completely judge. It also sounds, however, as if there is a chance all three could eventually be back with the Bruins.
— Finally, looks like a big “never mind” on what we wrote about here the other day on the speculation that QB Marcus Mariota could end up committing to UW. Sounds as if he has recommitted to Oregon.
All for now.
