Locker to throw out first pitch Saturday at Safeco Field

Jake Locker will make his Major League debut Saturday night — sort of.
The UW quarterback, whom many speculate could have a Major League baseball career if he decided to play that sport, is scheduled to throw out the first pitch Saturday before the Mariners’ game against the New York Yankees. That’s according to this Tweet from the Mariners.
Locker, in fact, is technically a baseball player in that he is just about wrapping up the first year of a six-year contract he signed with the Angels last August that reportedly paid him about $250,000. Locker spent a few days with the Angels at spring training but otherwise has not participated in any baseball, and a minor post-spring operation to clean up his thumb prevented him from playing this summer.
Locker was the Washington State 3A Player of the Year in baseball in 2006 as an outfielder and pitcher at Ferndale High. He was drafted as an outfielder by the Angels. Given all of that, Locker’s first pitch could be about as interesting as these things get.
