Huskies welcome 29 to LEAP program

As noted on Coach Sark’s site, today was the beginning of UW’s summer LEAP program for incoming freshmen athletes.
The UW football team has 29 players enrolled. That includes 28 incoming scholarship freshmen who signed last February, or everyone except Chris Young and Darius Waters, who did not make it in for academic reasons and will instead attend Arizona Western, a two-year school in Yuma, Ariz.
The 28 includes the four freshmen who enrolled in time for spring ball (Nick Montana, Deontae Cooper, Jesse Callier and Victor Burnett — apparently they go through it anyway even though they have already been through a quarter or two of college). The number also includes safety John Timu of Long Beach, who may still delay his enrollment until after the season while recovering from a knee injury. Participating in the LEAP program now would not impact Timu’s ability to delay his enrollment — or grayshirt — and start his eligibility clock with the 2011 season.
The other player enrolled is walk-on Evan Hudson of Bothell, adding up to the total number of 29. And obviously, the fact that each of the other incoming scholarship frosh other than Young and Waters makes it official that everyone will be good to go academically this fall.
