Thursday links — Oregon hires and AD, and a little more

Oregon has finally hired an athletic director to replace Mike BellottiRob Mullens, who had been deputy AD at Kentucky.
Here’s more on that from the Eugene Register-Guard.
IN OTHER NEWS. …
Jon Wilner updates what he’s heard on Pac-10 realignment, saying that the so-called Zipper Plan is gaining traction. That would split the conference east-west rather than north-south and assure that everyone is aligned with one of the two LA schools. I have heard this is increasingly important to people at UW. Wilner also says the conference will stay with nine conference football games and that it is likely there will be no splitting into divisions for basketball (something I’ve also consistently heard). Pac-10 ADs are set to discuss all of this in person on July 30 after the conference’s football media day in Pasadena.
— The Rivals.com/Yahoo preview of the Huskies is now on-line. I had this review of the print edition of the preview a few weeks ago. Obviously, some aspects of the two-deep are a little dated due to the deadlines for getting it into print, such as Tyrone Duncan on the D-line (he has since transferred to Montana).
— Rivals.com also has a good clarification and primer on the transfer rules pertaining to USC football players.
— The BYU Cougar Tracks blog rates the MWC and picks a pre-season all-conference team, serving as a good primer for who to watch on BYU.
— ASU has lost a couple of incoming freshmen.
— Former BYU RB Harvey Unga was taken by the Bears in the NFL Supplemental Draft today.
— Good links from the ESPN Pac-10 blog.
All for now.
