Friday night links and notes — Woodward talks about adding Shirley, and some recruiting notes

Sorry for the intermission here, but had some other stuff to do today.
That included putting together this story, in which I talked with UW AD Scott Woodward about the decision to add Josh Shirley to the football team. The story pretty much speaks for itself, I hope, so I don’t have much else to add in this space on that topic.
IN OTHER NEWS. …
— I know there were some rumors today about Brett Hundley. As is evident in the story, I spoke with ESPN.com recruiting guru Greg Biggins, who said that Hundley hadn’t committed anywhere, but that “I keep hearing Washington and I think it could happen pretty soon. I know he loved his visits there, he’s close with Sark (UW coach Steve Sarkisian), he likes that offense. He’s down to those two at this point (UW and UCLA) but at this point I would be kind of surprised if he ended up anywhere else other than UW right now.”
— Biggins, in fact, said he thinks UW may be on the verge of hitting a recruiting trifecta by also getting Kasen Williams and Austin Sefarian-Jenkins. He said that “I think they are both leaning there, Kasen heavily. Austin, it as them and Texas, and he sort of feels like Texas wants him more as an offensive lineman and he’d rather quit football than play that, so I think Washington is right there at the top for him.” He said if UW adds all three that “they have a chance to have a huge class this year. All three of those guys are difference-makers, so that would be huge to get them.”
— Biggins also said he didn’t think UW was taking much of a risk in adding Shirley. “I really don’t,” he said. “I got to know him pretty well the last couple of years and he’s a solid kid — very well-spoken, humble. Just a super good kid, so I was surprised that he was involved in that. I don’t know a lot of the details so I don’t want to comment too much, but I don’t see him as a trouble-making kid. He’s not that kind of a guy at all.”
— ESPN.com’s Ted Miller had a couple of interesting items — this mailbag in which one of the items compares the discipline of Sarkisian and Rick Neuheisel; and this look at the removal of Chuck Nelson from UW’s broadcast booth.
— FanHouse.com details the agenda for the Pac-10 media day in New York.
— The National Football Post looks at the Pac-10 running backs and predicts Chris Polk may not play a full career at UW.
— Some college football thoughts from Chip Brown, the OrangeBloods.com guy.
All for now, but headed to Ferndale tomorrow for Jake Locker Day. I’ll likely have a report or two on that later.
