Saturday notes — Huskies get eight votes in AP poll

I’ve arrived at UW for the scrimmage a little later and I see that UW received eight votes in the AP pre-season Top 25 poll unveiled today.
I can say that it didn’t come from the state of Washington voter, as that would be me, and I did not include the Huskies.
Three Pac-10 teams did get ranked — Oregon at 11, USC at 14 and Oregon State at 24.
That’s similar to how I had it — I also included three Pac-10 teams, with Oregon at 8, USC at 13 and Oregon State at 21. Not sure if it would have changed anything greatly in my poll, but worth noting that they were due three weeks ago.
Anyway, here’s my complete ballot:
1, Alabama
2, Ohio State
3, Oklahoma
4, Florida
5, Texas
6, Boise State
7, TCU
8, Oregon
9, Nebraska
10, Virginia Tech
11, Wisconsin
12, North Carolina
13, USC
14, Auburn
15, Iowa
16, Arkansas
17, Miami
18, Florida State
19, Georgia Tech
20, West Virginia
21, Oregon State
22, Pitt
23, Utah
24, Houston
25, LSU
You can actually find the ballots for every AP voter here.
I did some quick persuing and found that UW got its eight points by being included on three ballots — No. 22 on that of Keith Sargeant of the Home News Tribune in New Jersey (here’s his complete ballot), and No. 24 by Bob Asmussen of the Champaign (Ill.) News-Gazette and Lisa Byington of WLNS-TV in Lansing, Mich.
Only one other UW opponent is ranked — Nebraska at No. 8. Stanford (27th) and Arizona (36th) were other Pac-10 teams to receive more votes than UW. BYU also received more votes than UW, coming in at No. 34.
IN OTHER NEWS. …
— Here’s my story for today’s paper, highlighting the strongly positive comments Steve Sarkisian made about his team’s defense on Friday.
Bud Withers’ Pac-10 series focused today on Oregon.
Daniel Te’o-Nesheim had three tackles for Philadelphia last night, though this Eagles’ beat writer wasn’t impressed.
— Lots of Pac-10 links from Vince Grippi in Spokane.
— The Deseret News looked into whether there was anything that could still keep expansion from happening — in the wake of a story Friday that alleged there is some effort to turn it back — and determined that there wasn’t.
More later after the scrimmage.
