UW coach Steve Sarkisian has issued a further comment tonight in relation to quotes attributed to him in a story on ESPN.com earlier today in which he referred to Reggie Bush as “an idiot” for his recent actions regarding returning the Heisman Trophy.
Here’s the original ESPN.com story.
In that story, Sarkisian is quoted as saying that: “He had a chance to apologize, look like the good guy. But in giving it (the Heisman Trophy) back and not apologizing, he just looks like an idiot again.” As the story notes, Sarkisian was part of the offensive staff at USC during 2005, the year Bush won the Heisman.
And here is Sarkisian’s new statement, posted tonight on CoachSark.com.
“Reggie Bush was the best player in college football and USC was the best team because of what happened on the field, not off. No one prepared better, practiced harder, and ultimately performed more consistently. It’s unfortunate that this controversy has gone on this long, and it’s time to move on and focus on some of the great things happening in college football right now.”
