Sarkisian expects Locker to bounce back vs. USC

Steve Sarkisian didn’t mince words today when asked during the Pac-10 coaches conference call how he expected Jake Locker to play Saturday at USC.
“Really well,” he said simply.
When asked to elaborate as to why he expected Locker to bounce back from the tough game against Nebraska, he said “I think we’ve addressed the issues that needed to be addressed and have put together a game plan conducive to him playing well.”
Sarkisian had talked about those issues on Monday, saying that Locker spent much of the bye week working on refining his footwork, making sure he is feet are set when throwing.
Sarkisian also touched on a few other issues during the call:
— He was asked about Lane Kiffin’s comment earlier on the call that Sarkisian hasn’t been answering his texts this week and said “boy, that’s not true.” He also said that the game “isn’t about Lane Kiffin or myself, it’s about our players and their ability to go out and play in a big-time Pac-10 atmosphere at an extremely high level.”
— He also said that as time goes by “the story of myself going back to play SC is going to continue to dissolve.”
— Asked the keys to defending USC’s offense, he said the first is to “eliminate big plays,” next is to “tackle well” and “maintain line of scrimmage integrity” and third is to “stay on top in the secondary,” meaning not to let receivers get behind the defensive backs.
