The latest news and analysis on the Montlake Dawgs.

Tuesday morning links

Four days until the start of the new season — UW’s theme that the Pac-10 represents a fresh start — in what will be balmy conditons in Los Angeles.
— For my story for today’s paper I tried to set up some of the varying subplots in Saturday’s game I also had this shorter story wrapping up some of the more interesting things Jake Locker said in his weekly press conference.
— The LA Times also looks at the Lane Kiffin-Steve Sarkisian relationship and also took special note of some of the things Sarkisian said about defending Dillon Baxter.
— The LA Daily News has lots of USC info on its Inside USC blog.
— The Orange County Register also looks at Sark and Kiffin and defends USC on its Trojans’ blog (which also includes lots of other links).
— ESPN.com’s Ted Miller has quick previews of all the Pac-10 games this week. He also writes about the “meaty middle” of the Pac-10 and says UW can mostly wash away the disappointment of the Nebraska loss by winning at USC.
— The Tucson Citizen notes that UW has been the third-least penalized team in the Pac-10 from 2004-2009, which also coincides with the worst losing skid in program history in 40 years or so (so guess penalties haven’t been the issue). Actually, it was noted on here often during the Tyrone Willingham era that UW was often near the top in having the least penalites in the conference.
Greg Biggins has updates on a couple of recruits on UW’s radar — DE/LB Corey Waller of Long Beach Poly and Antwaun Woods of Taft High in Woodland Hills. Woods visited Arizona State over the weekend and Waller Boise State. Waller says UW is tied with Boise State on his list and that he plans to visit Washington Oct. 15-16 (the weekend of the Oregon State game). Woods says USC remains at the top of his list but UW and ASU are tied for second and that he still plans to set up a visit to Washington but doesn’t have a date set yet.
— The Eugene Register-Guard assesses the Pac-10 bowl outlook now that conference play is underway for everybody.
UW will practice at 4 p.m. today and we’ll have reports afterward, as well as a few things in between.
