I’ve arrived at the LA Memorial Coliseum two hours before kickoff.
It’s sunny now, as you can see in the photos, and while it’s bordering on being a little hot, I don’t see the weather being much of a factor today.
Should be getting dark by halftime, and pretty much a night game for the second half.
The buzz in the press box is about the WSU-UCLA game, the Cougars leading in the third quarter as I type this.
Shows again just how much can change from week-to-week in college football — something UW fans have to hope holds in this game here.
The second picture is the outside of the Coliseum as we approached it about two-and-a-half hours prior to the game.
We would have been in the press box a little earlier but we had to go through a pretty long process now to get our passes — which is part of changes USC is making due to NCAA sanctions.
USC is now policing everyone who gets in and has a pass that enables them to get the sidelines at any point in the game (as ours do, as we are allowed down there for the end of the game to get to the locker rooms to do interviews afterward). We all had to sign a sheet with about six different quesitons on it saying we won’t talk to student-athletes for reason beyond interviews, understand the NCAA rules on such topics, etc.
The last picture is what passes for tailgating here (and that’s a little tongue in cheek as there is all kinds of fun stuff going on around here, but it’s definitely an urban atmosphere and not quite the normal college feel here).
