Tuesday night practice update and notes — Burfict won’t start against UW

The Huskies are off the field following their Tuesday practice, a full-pads workout that lasted roughly two hours.
We don’t get access to UW coach Steve Sarkisian afterward, so not a lot from coaches following this one. A couple of us talked for a while with cornerbacks coach Demetrice Martin afterward and will pass that along at some point later.
As for news from practice, there wasn’t a lot. No significant personnel changes afoot. The only new injury appeared to be tight end Michael Hartvigson, dealing with something with his shoulder. DL Cameron Elisara (shoulder stinger) wore red and sat out the team periods, and Johri Fogerson was not in pads and again sat out.
The team has welcomed five walk-ons now that school has started and the rosters can expand. Among the five is Tobias Togi, a member of the team last season before leaving for personal reasons. The four new walk-ons are Alec Kimble, a linebacker from Eastside Catholic; Evan Steinruck, a punter from Lake Stevens; Zach Beebe, a safety from Sultan; and Ken Egu, a safety from De La Salle High in Concord, Calif.
IN OTHER NEWS. …
— In maybe the most significant news of the day to impact Saturday’s game, ASU coach Dennis Erickson announced after practice tonight that standout middle linebacker Vontaze Burfict will not start Saturday at UW as a result of his latest on-field issue,m a head-butt to Oregon State QB Ryan Katz Saturday. Here’s a video clip and explainer of the incident. Here’s more detail on Burfict’s, uh, eventful season to date. He also had a couple personal fouls against UW last year. Burfict is ASU’s most talented defensive player and leads the team with 42 tackles — 26 more than any other Sun Devil. He will be replaced in the lineup by senior Gerald Munns, who has just three tackles this season but is a team captain.
UPDATE — Here’s an updated story on the Burfict situation from the Arizona Republic. Note also an injury report that states that WR Aaron Pflugrad, a transfer from Oregon, is doubtful with turf toe.
Bud Withers of our staff has a look at what may happen at the Pac-10 athletic directors meetings the next two days.
— GoHuskies.com looks at the task awaiting UW this week.
— The Arizona Republic has a feature on Jake Locker.
— ESPN.com’s Ted Miller has some Pac-10 numbers to chew on, a few of which involve the Huskies.
All for now.
