ASU week questions, volume one

Black jerseys, winning streaks against USC, and more in this edition:
Q: I see the Dawg Den is selling black jerseys on-line. So can we expect to see the Huskies wearing these soon?
A: Since things have changed on this since I first wrote this answer, I am changing the answer, as well. The jerseys are indeed for sale in several different places, including the Dawg Den and through the school. Whether they are an exact replica of what UW will wear, I don’t know. They may not necessarily be but sure they will be close to this if not exactly the same. As for when UW may wear these, the school won’t make that known until shortly before whenever it is that they would be worn. All along, the conventional wisdom has pointed to the UCLA game as a logical spot — ESPN national game, Thursday night, etc. But UW has three home games until then and who knows? UPDATE — CoachSark’s site has a few more looks at the jerseys.
Q: I saw you wrote earlier in the week that the game would be on, but I don’t see it listed there. Can you clear this up?
A: Yes I can. Unfortunately, there was some misinformation on that early in the week that I passed along. The game WILL NOT be available on It’s an FSN game, so it will only be available on FSN formats. However, I will use this question to answer another question, which is — why doens’t UW ever have any games on ESPN? I guess I’m not sure what isn’t registering here. But UW has already had two games this year on ABC/ESPN (which these days are one and the same) and will have another against UCLA, and could have another game or two, as well (the Oct. 23 Arizona game is another possibility for a 12:30 ABC game as the only other realistic option for that slot is Arizona State at Cal).
Q: I live outside the NW and am unable to listen to the radio during games anymore. I am wondering what the perception is of the retooled broadcast team of Huard /Rondeau vs Nelson/Rondeau. Has there been any growing pains? Is there much of a difference? What is your take?
A: I actually don’t have any take for the simple reason that I don’t ever really hear the broadcasts. I used to. But these days, there is so much interference in the press box with the Internet connections and all that that it’s just about impossible to get radio reception. And the on-line broadcast is delayed enough that it’s distracting when you are there. So I’ve kind of given up the last year or so listening regularly to the radio broadcast. So I’ll leave it to others on here who listen to it regularly to make that judgment.
Q: I was wondering what other teams have beat USC two years in a row since the start of the Pete Carroll era. I imagine it can’t have happened that often.
A: In fact, it had not happened until Saturday. USC never lost in consecutive years to the same team during the Carroll era (and obviously never did as Lane Kiffin is now the coach).
Q: What time will the team arrive at The Zone on Saturday?
A: The Huskies almost always arrive roughly two hours prior to kickoff. So that would be 5 p.m. for a 7 p.m. start.
More later.
