Another new Husky? UW gets its QB

Coach Sark’s Twitter “Woof” a few hours ago was a tipoff that the Huskies had a new player on their hands.
And the recruiting sites quickly confirmed that the Huskies had landed their QB for the Class of 2011 — Joseph Gray of Dorsey High School in Los Angeles.
Gray told Dawgman.com that he got the offer this morning and decided to commit immediately. Here is his scouting profile, with Scout.com rating him as a two-star commit. UW was apparently his first Pac-10 offer.
I just talked to Paul Knox, Gray’s coach at Dorsey, who said that Steve Sarkisian had seen Gray play a couple of weeks ago in a game against Compton during UW’s bye week
But Knox said the game that really impressed college scouts came a couple weeks earlier when Gray threw for 359 yards and three touchdowns against Taft.
Knox said interest had steadily picked up in Gray since then and sounds as if UW beat other schools to the punch by offering and getting a commitment quickly.
Knox said Gray is 6-1, 175 and can move and throw. He compared him to UW redshirt freshman Keith Price, saying “he’s in that mold.”
Knox said of Dorsey that “we were a running school,” until Gray enrolled and won the job last year to become the team’s starting QB. He had previously played at Inglewood where he was coached by former Husky DB Charles Mincy.
Knox said the right-handed Gray threw for a school-record 1,632 yards last season as a junior.
“He’s mobile but he’s more of a drop-back passer,” Knox said.
Knox said Dorsey typically runs a spread offense with four receivers and that Gray “has a lot of responsibility” to make checks and calls at the line of scrimage. “He really knows our offense,” Knox said.
Knox described Gray as “a solid kid and a good student” and said eligibility wouldn’t be a problem.
Dorsey is 4-0 heading into a game this weekend against Mira Mesa of San Diego.
At Dorsey, Gray plays with another UW commit OLB Matthew Lyons.
He is the 18th commit for UW’s Class of 2011, the first from a QB. UW needed to get at least one in this class with just two scholarship QBs set to return next season — Price and Nick Montana.
Here is his MaxPreps stat page with some more information.
Here is some video of Gray:
