Thursday practice notes — Locker practices, should be good to go

The Huskies are off the field following their last full practice before Saturday night’s game at Arizona.
And as was the case a week ago, UW QB Jake Locker participated fully, then was declared good to go by head coach Steve Sarkisian. As he had a week ago, Locker sat out most of the first three days of practice — this time to recover from what Sarkisian said was overall soreness.
“I thought he had a nice practice,” Sarkisian said. “I thought he looked good. Threw the ball well, ran well, really locked into what we were trying to get accomplished. So looks like he’s ready to go.”
Sarkisian said that Locker :looked like he looked last Thursday” and that he doesn’t think Locker will be limited.
“We’re just going to monitor him like I had to (last week),” Sarkisian said. “I’m going to try to get a feel for him on the first series or two to see exactly where he’s at, movement-wise. We’ll just have to assess it as we go.”
In other injury news, Sarkisian said WR Devin Aguilar (hip) and OL Erik Kohler (mono) will be able to play though “how much remains to be seen.”
He also said WR Kevin Smith will travel.
“Yeah, he’s back out there and going (on the trip),” Sarkisian said. “He had a cast on, but to his credit, he’s learning to catch with a cast on. He’s available for us to play.”
Sarkisian said he thought the team had a good week of practice and is ready to try to win another road game, having gotten a breakthrough three weeks ago at USC.
“Once you get a win in a venue like that, you can have some carryover there,” he said. “I’d like to think they can have some confidence from beating a very good Oregon State team last week. But all in all, I thought we had a good week of work, which is probably the most important thing. They practiced really hard Tuesday and Wednesday; they were physical practices. And then today, they were really mentally sharp. I liked the efficiency of the practice – it was quick, it was crisp, and guys were moving around fast.”
As for the big news of the day concerning realignment, Sarkisian wanted to keep the focus on his team andn this weekend.
“We’re playing Arizona Saturday night,” he said. “We’ll worry about 2011 next year.”
