Thursday’s news means that, for all we know, this is our last trip to Tucson for quite a while.
But this is the kind of Tucson fall day we remember — bright and sunny this morning, if not overly hot. Should be perfect weather for a football game tonight — UW’s third straight 7 p.m. (or slightly later) kickoff.
In one piece of news — WR James Johnson is not on the trip after getting sick late in the week and being left home. That will shorten the depth at a receiver slot already a little thin with the injury to Devin Aguilar, who is expected to return tonight but may not be 100 percent. (UW, though, will have Jermaine Kearse, pictured right making the winning TD grab last week against Oregon State in a Dean Rutz photo).
On with the links. …
— Here’s my preview story of the game focusing on UW’s efforts to end the up-and-down nature of this season.
— Gregg Bell of GoHuskies.com has this preview.
— The Arizona Daily Star says the Wildcats will key on UW QB Jake Locker today. It also writes that how Locker deals with the UA defensive ends is key. Star columnist Greg Hansen has lots of good notes on the game and picks UA to win 37-35.
— Anthony Gimino also picks UA to win a close one and notes that in the six games Mike Stoops has coached against Washington, the Wildcats have a yardage edge of just 2,319 to 2,306.
— Gimino also writes that UA’s 2007 win at Washington was pivotal to Stoops’ career at UA (and it could be argued it was also pretty critical to undoing Tyrone Willingham at Washington).
— Lots of other notes from the Tucson Citizen, including a look at all the other Pac-10 games today.
— Talk about not-so-great minds thinking alike — Jim Moore picks Arizona to win the game by the same score as I did (27-24). The good news? Moore’s last two picks were Washington State over USC and UW over Nebraska. So picking him picking Arizona completes the kiss of death for the Wildcats.
— Ted Miller with some interesting thoughts on Pac-12 realignment in his Friday mailbag.
— Lots of good stuff in the Friday mailbag of LA Times college football writer Chris Dufrense.
— LuckyLester likes the Huskies and the points.
— Lots of links around the conference from Vince Grippi and Ken Goe.
And let’s shoot for a live chat around 5:30 or 5:45, kind of depending on when I can get set up at the stadium, so watch for that later.
