Huskies fare well in new graduation rate report

The UW football team is second among Pac-10 schools in the latest Graduation Success Rate report released today by the NCAA. This is not to be confused with the APR, which is released in the spring and is the one for which schools can be penalized for not meeting certain thresholds. This, instead, is merely a report designed to let schools know how they are performing.
Today’s report is based on players who entered school in the 2003-04 academic year. Of that class, UW’s football team had an 82 percent success rate, which ranks behind only Stanford, at 86.
That is also higher than the national average for football players, also 69 percent.
Overall, UW has an 87 percent graduation rate for all student-athletes in this report.
Here is how the Pac-10 football programs rank in the latest report:
Stanford — 86
Washington — 82
Cal — 65
Arizona State — 61
USC — 61
Washington State — 60
Oregon State — 56
Oregon — 54
UCLA — 52
Arizona — 48
Here are the players UW signed in 2003. This was the last class signed by Rick Neuheisel, though he was fired before the 2003 season and this class played out its career coached by Keith Gilbertson and Tyrone Willingham.
And here’s the press release that describes all of this in more detail, as well as a USA Today story that gives the national perspective.
Finally, here’s the overall report for UW.
