Friday links — Looking back and ahead

Admittedly, 11 years isn’t the normal anniversary of something that you celebrate. But I thought the oddity that Stanford was playing at UW Saturday, on what is exactly 11 years to the day of the 1999 game when Marques Tuiasosopo threw for more than 300 yards and ran for more than 200 was worth noting.
So here’s the story I wrote on that game for today’s paper. I covered that game and remember it well, but had forgotten the subplot that the Huskies put in a new option play specifically for that game — and apparently ran it sparingly afterward since no other teams lined up quite the way Stanford did at that time — that helped lead to Tuiasosopo’s big day.
IN OTHER NEWS. …
— A final reminder that UW’s Hall of Fame Ceremony is tonight.
Bud Withers of our staff previews the USC-Oregon game and picks both USC and Stanford to win Saturday.
Jon Wilner picks Stanford and also looks at what is potentially at stake for the Cardinal this weekend (and read it and realize the Cardinal isn’t likely to overlook UW or anyone else right now).
Gregg Bell of GoHuskies.com has a nice story on Mason Foster.
— The Stanford student newspaper offers this preview and the UW Daily also has some stories on the game.
— The Seattlest calls the game “The Revenge of the Nerds.”
— ESPN.com’s Ted Miller, in his weekly Did You Know? entry, notes that UW is tied with Cal for the second-fewest turnovers in the conference at nine.
Vince Grippi with lots of links around the conference.
Christian Caple, now covering WSU for the Pullman/Moscow paper, picks Stanford to roll.
All for now.
