Monday links and notes — Gameday nearing

It’s the start of one of the more unique gameweeks in UW history, with a Thursday nighter against UCLA at Husky Stadium.
Due to the bye, we’ve had lots of time to bat around what it all means — UW has to win out or stay home for the holidays.
But it also feels like it could mean a lot more than that. Win out, and the Huskies can say they made progress this year in Steve Sarkisian’s second season as head coach. But lose one or two (or in the worst nightmares of UW fans, all three) and the Huskies would head into a long off-season with lots of questions.
UCLA is kind of in the same boat, at 4-5 in Rick Neuheisel’s third year as coach. The Bruins later play at Arizona State and then host USC and need to win two of the last three to get to a bowl. No question they are probably looking at UW as the easiest of those three to get. And after UCLA won a bowl game last season, not making one this year would undoubtedly be a step back for the Bruins.
So, while on paper it’s just a matchup of 3-6 and 4-5 teams Thursday, to those who follow the programs closely, it’s still a big deal.
On to the links. …
— How much does UCLA want to make a bowl? Safety Rahim Moore tells the LA Times he “would probably quit football” if the Bruins don’t get to one this year.
— Neuheisel says he knows all about the rain in Seattle even if UCLA QB Richard Brehaut has apparently never played a game in it.
— The LA Daily News has a Sunday night practice report for UCLA including injury updates.
Bud Withers looks at the weekend that was for the Pac-10.
— Scout.com reports that Sarkisian, during the couple days he spent recruiting last week when UW was off, made an offer to Class of 2013 QB Troy Williams of Narbonne High, the same school as current Huskies Tim Tucker and Sean Parker.
— ESPN.com’s Ted Miller has UCLA sixth and UW eighth in his updated Pac-10 power rankings. Miller also has bowl projections for the Pac-10 that don’t include UW.
— Here is UW’s updated stat page from the NCAA, and you’ll note that with WSU’s performance at Oregon State that the Huskies dropped in a few categories, falling to last in the Pac-10 in scoring defense (36.22) and rushing defense (219.56, also 118th in the country in that category).
— The Wiz of Odds offers up Craig James for voter approval this week. James will be on the broadcast team for Thursday’s game.
— SI.com projects all 35 bowl games. (And I can’t wait for that Louisiana-Monroe-Northern Illinois matchup).
Ken Goe with lots of Oregon and Pac-10 links.
All for now.
