Friday night picks and links

I’ll put together one last combo post before calling it a night with my picks for the other two Pac-10 games of the weekend as well as a few links.
First, the two other Pac-10 games of the weekend:
USC AT OREGON STATE (Trojans by 3): Oregon State’s beaten USC the last two times in Corvallis. But the Beavers, as evidenced by last weekend’s loss to Washington State, appear to have finally being have that season where they fall back just a bit. Expect OSU to play better than against the Cougars, but its defense doesn’t figure to be able to stop USC enough to get over the top. USC 31, OSU 23.
STANFORD AT CAL (Cardinal by 7): The Big Game is truly a big game for the Cardinal, which can stay in the hunt for a BSC bowl with a win. UW fans will be watching closely to get a look at the Bears, the next time on Washington’s schedule. Hard to know what helps UW more — a Cal win that means that the Bears won’t be a win-or-else mode next week, or a Bears’ loss which while giving Cal a lot of motivation against the Huskies might also indicate some weaknesses Washington could exploit. Cal beat Stanford soundly last year in Palo Alto, and the Bears’ proved how good their defense really is last week against Oregon. But Stanford just seems too strong and powerful up front and too good overall. STANFORD 24, CAL 21.
LAST WEEK: Straight up, 2-3; against the spread, 0-3-1.
SEASON TO DATE: Straight up, 50-15, against the spread, 24-31-1.
Now for a few links. …

All for now.
