Tuesday afternoon news and notes

T-minus about 16 hours until the fax machine starts percolating at UW. So far today, nothing definitive on either comings or goings — and odds are it may stay that way until tomorrow.

But there’s no shortage of rumors and other assorted news and notes, so here are a few:

Adam Gorney of Rivals.com said in a chat this morning that De’Anthony Thomas, a cornerback/running back from Crenshaw High in Los Angeles and called by some as the No. 1 recruit in the country, may be considering UW along with USC and Oregon. Thomas has been committed to USC since May, but took a trip to Oregon over the weekend. Thomas has said nothing about any of it, so the rumors are strictly that — rumors. But for those fans looking for a big signing day surprise, this is potentially it. Thomas never took an official visit to UW, but he did list the Huskies among his considerations prior to committing to USC. Thomas has called a press conference for Wednesday at 5 p.m. to announce his decision.

UPDATE AT 3:30 P.M. — Mike Farrell of Rivals.com has more on the UW-Thomas rumors and also throws out that the Huskies could also be in the mix for WR Victor Blackwell and QB Max Wittek of Mater Dei. Wittek, however, has reportedly already enrolled at USC and Mater Dei’s coach said today that Blackwell was “definitely” signing with the Trojans.

— Looks like Greg Biggins of ESPNRise.com solved the mystery of who was the defensive lineman rumored to maybe be taking a trip to UW last weekend — Akeem Gonzalez of Mission Hills, Calif. In an Insider story today, Biggins reports that Gonzalez has committed to Oregon State but that he had been offered by UW again recently after having earlier pulled his offer, and wanted him to take a trip. Instead, he decided to commit to Oregon State and declined.

— The Jacoby Brissett story seems to change every five minutes, and the latest today is this premium story from Rivals.com in which his mother, Lisa Brown, is quoted as saying that UW is, in fact, out of it and that the final three is Miami, Wisconsin and Florida. She also confirms that he won’t make an announcement until Friday. The Wisconsin Journal-Sentinel has a wrapup of Brissett news, including this story, in which he sounds pretty disenchanted with the whole thing.

— I haven’t seen or heard anything new today on Paulay Asiata and Stephan Nembot. For now, looks like fans will have to wait until tomorrow to hear if they are sticking with UW or signing with Colorado.

— This story indicates UW not an option for Jalen Grimble.

— UW commit Kasen Williams was on 710 ESPN Seattle today with Brock and Salk.

— ESPN.com has a pretty comprehensive guide to signing day.

— ESPN.com’s Ted Miller reviews the recruiting grades for the All-Pac-10 team concludes that sometimes the evaluators get it right and sometimes they don’t.

All for now.
