Are Huskies out of Jacoby Brissett sweepstakes? And a few other notes and links

Landing Jacoby Brissett was always a long shot for the Huskies, kind of a nothing-to-lose deal — why not take a shot at a highly-rated quarterback?

But there are increasing indications tonight that UW is out of it. That’s been written before (and passed along here before, I readily admit). But it seems to be coming from an awful lot of angles tonight that Brissett — who will announce at his high school basketball game tomorrow night — is leading toward Florida or Miami.

One is a Tweet tonight from a Florida sports TV anchor, who says he received a text that it’s down to Miami or Florida.

Another is this blog post from Matt Porter of the Palm Beach Post, who has been covering this for a while and predicted tonight that Brissett will pick Florida. He also wrote this story earlier in the day saying it’s Miami or Florida.

I also wrote a story earlier in the day noting that the Huskies are covered at QB with the signings of Derrick Brown and Antavius Sims.

So the consensus tonight seems to be Florida or Miami, likely the Gators, and if nothing else, at least it will soon be over.

IN OTHER NEWS. …

— As also noted in that story, Shaun Tarantola, the coach at Juanita High, said that Jarret Finau, a linebacker who signed with UW Wednesday, will be able to graduate from high school and enroll at UW in time for spring practice. Tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins of Gig Harbor is also expected to enroll in time for the spring. UW coach Steve Sarkisian said there was a chance a few others may be able to enroll early but didn’t name them.

— A lot of you have asked for names of top prospects in the state for 2012. I’ll try to get more of an overview on the blog at some point. But ESPN.com also has a pretty good list.

John Blanchette of the Spokesman-Review examined Bishop Sankey’s change of heart.

— Pac-12 commissioner Larry Scott paid a visit to Colorado today and CUBuffs.com has lots of good stuff on what he said on a variety of conference-related topics. The story also includes a quote from new Colorado coach Jon Embree that “I think Washington is going to be our new rival” due to the Buffs swiping away a few Husky commits.

All for now.
