Wednesday night links — Father of former UW coach Gilbertson passes away, more

Sad news to open tonight as Keith Gilbertson, Sr.,, the father of the former UW football coach of the same name, has died. Here’s the story from the Everett Herald. He was a long time coach of football and other sports at Snohomish High School (here’s a story from a few years ago detailing some of his accomplishments).

The younger Gilbertson was UW’s head coach in 2003-04 and just this week was named as a senior assistant for offense with the Cleveland Browns.

IN OTHER NEWS. …

— Former UW QB Brock Huard explains why it’s a good idea for Jake Locker to go through all the drills at the NFL Combine next week.

— Speaking of Locker, Rob Rang’s latest first round mock draft has him among the next 10 after the first round. However, ESPN draft analyst Todd McShay says the way Locker’s stock is falling he may now turn out to be a steal.

— Rivals.com ranked all the Pac-12 2011 recruiting classes by position and has UW first at tight end and defensive back.

— Cal, saddled with some scheduling issues for 2011, has added Presbyterian College as a non-conference opponent, a game that obviously won’t help the Pac-12’s strength of schedule.

All for now.
