An early look at spring ball

Our paper today included my early preview of spring ball, which begins March 29.

The personnel news was all included in the first Friday blog post. But there are some new quotes from UW coach Steve Sarkisian looking ahead to the spring.

Obviously, the cornerback spot becomes a bit of a concern with Adam Long out for the spring with a knee injury and his status for the season uncertain, and Greg Ducre also out of contact work in the spring while recovering from shoulder surgery.
That will leave UW with three healthy, scholarship cornerbacks for the spring — returning starters Desmond Trufant and Quinton Richardson and junior Anthony Gobern, primarily a special teams player so far. Walk-on Laroy Chase is also available for the spring.

The outlook is a little better for the season with JC transfer Antavius Sims and true freshman Marcus Peters arriving. And we’ll see next week if there aren’t maybe some other roster additions (meaning walk-ons) or other adjustments to add depth there.

And that Princeton Fuimaono and Cooper Pelluer won’t be available for contact work in the spring will leave the linebacker spots (other than Cort Dennison in the middle) a little unclear, as well. But it figured that those spots would be pretty unsettled heading into the fall, anyway.
