Thanks to a reader for pointing out this link from Beted.com, which lists early betting line favorites for the 2011 Heisman Trophy.
Among the 21 players listed is UW running back Chris Polk, who is plus-1,800 on the money line.
Here’s an explainer of the money line, but essentially that means that if you bet $100 on Polk, you’d get $1,800 back if he were to win the Heisman Trophy. The lower the number listed means the more likely they think a player is to win the Heisman. As you can see, there are 10 players with higher betting lines than Polk, and 10 with lower lines, so he’s right in the middle of the 21.
Polk is third among Pac-12 players with Stanford’s Andrew Luck the favorite on this list at plus-300 and Oregon RB LaMichael James at plus-600. Oregon QB Darron Thomas is also listed at plus-3,000.
Polk, a junior, rushed for 1,415 yards last season, second in Washington history behind Corey Dillon’s 1,695 yards in 1996.
Also listed are money line odds to win the national title next year, with UW at plus-15,000.
That is tied for fifth among Pac-12 teams with Arizona. Teams listed above UW are Oregon (plus-1,500), Stanford (plus-2,500) and Cal and Oregon State (each plus-10,000). UCLA is also listed at plus-17,500. A little odd not to see Arizona State, which looms as a sleeper team this year. And obviously USC not listed due to its current probationary status.
