Monday links and notes — spring has sprung

The spring football season is just about here, with one of the traditional steps — Steve Sarkisian’s day-before press conference — just a few hours away.

Sarkisian will meet with the media at noon today, and you can access it here via GoHuskies.com, and the audio here via KJRAM.com.

We’ll also have a full transcripit (or close to it) here a little while after it occurs.

The Huskies then hit the field for the first time Tuesday at 4 p.m. Remember that the schedule calls for five weeks of practice, going each week on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Per NCAA rules, UW cannot put on full pads and have full contact until the third practice.

The beginning of practice means there are a few things out there today about the Huskies, so here are a few links, followed at the end by a little housekeeping on the blog. …

— The Tacoma News Tribune has a profile of Austin Seferian-Jenkins as he begins school today.

Scott Johnson of the Everett Herald looks at 10 questions UW must answer during the spring.

— Rivals.com says UW hopes to keep moving forward.

— ESPN.com’s Ted Miller rates UW fifth among his three-headed defensive monsters in the Pac-12.

— Miller also assesses each team’s backup QB position.

— NationalChamps.net lists Chris Polk and Jermaine Kearse as honorable mentions on its pre-season All-American team.

—- BroadcastingCable.com has the news of FX agreeing to televise some Pac-12 football games next fall.

— In a little around-the-Pac-12 news: Rivals.com looks at Oregon as the Ducks begin spring drills; lots of news on Oregon State as the Beavers also begin; issues with its practice field means Cal has to take some spring workouts on the road; Stanford and Arizona State — but not UW — are on The Sporting News’ list of the 10 programs that have made the most progress in the last year.

— Now for some quick housekeeping: As spring ball begins, probably worth pointing out how we intend to cover it — here on the blog as often as possible, and on my Twitter page for quicker, more timely updates, though again, when possible (there’s a no-Twitter rule from practice itself).

Missing from that equation is Facebook. A few of you have friended me on Facebook and have probably become aware that I don’t do much of anything UW/sports-related there. Some sports media personalities do. However, in my case, since I already have a blog through my employer, I want to send all traffic there to the blog, using Twitter as an alternate device when needed — my Twitter page is linked on the blog.

As for the coverage here, hoping to introduce at least one change that I think readers will like, but I’m also open to suggestions.

All for now.
