Locker on cover of this week’s Sports Illustrated

The Jake Locker pre-draft media blitz continues this week as the former UW quarterback will be one of three players featured on this week’s cover of Sports Illustrated — there it is to the right.

Sports Illustrated, like a lot of magazines, has done a lot of regionalization of its covers (meaning different covers for different areas of the country) in recent years that more and more athletes are getting that honor. Still, it’s a noteworthy accomplishment for a UW QB.

UW has had two QBs on the cover during their Husky playing days — Bob Schloredt in 1960 and Sonny Sixkiller in 1971.

And a few basketball players — such as Jon Brockman, Ryan Appleby and Isaiah Thomas — have been on regional preview issues the last few years, and others featured as among the faces on the annual NCAA Tournament preview issue.

Part of the SI’s package includes Peter King’s mock draft, in which he has Locker going No. 12 to the Vikings.

Locker is also featured today in this USA Today story.
