Husky Football Blog

The latest news and analysis on the Montlake Dawgs.

Another new Husky?

Looks that way as Dawgman.com is reporting tonight that UW has gotten a commitment from cornerback Darien Washington of Orange (Calif.) Lutheran High. That’s the same high school attended by current UW LB Garret Gilliland.

Washington, who would be the fourth player (that I can determine, anyway) in school history to have that last name, told Dawgman.com that he visited UW for the spring game and decided to commit this week. It looks as if UW was his first offer but he was said to be getting interest from the likes of Colorado, Arizona and Arizona State.

Here is his Scout.com profile, which lists him at 5-11, 175. ESPN.com, however, lists him at 5-9, 150 while MaxPreps splits the difference and lists him at 5-10, 160. A profile from an UnderArmour combine also lists him at 5-9, 150 (and includes some other measureables).
And here’s a recent video of Washington high jumping, with a reported best of 6-4.

He played safety last season, missing a few games early with a labrum injury, and had 48 tackles and two interceptions. But it sounds as if he projects as a cornerback with the ability to play both spots collegiately.

He’s the third public commitment for the Class of 2012, joining running back Tarien Owens of Muir High in Pasadena, Calif., and QB Jeff Lindquist of Mercer Island.

Other playes named Washington known to have played for Washington are Dee Washington (lettered in 1974), Otis Washington (1967-68) and Richard Washington, a defensive back who signed in 1991 but never lettered.
