Friday links — Shelton, previews and more

We’ll start today with the news that incoming UW freshman Danny Shelton, pictured right, has been named as the Athlete of the Year by the Auburn Reporter.

The story includes some interesting thoughts from Shelton on how he has handled the tragedy in his family as well as a look at his recruiting process.

Shelton and the rest of the frosh are due to arrive for the LEAP program on July 6, the official beginning of their college careers. Shelton is one who could play pretty quickly given his apparent ability and UW’s possible needs up front on the defensive line.

IN OTHER NEWS. …

— Here’s a more than thorough overview of the Huskies from an unlikely source — the WSUFootballBlog. Included is a good highlight video of Chris Polk.

— Athlon’s has put some of its general Pac-12 preview stuff on-line, and it also shows an adjustment in the projection for UW. The magazine had UW at 6-3 in conference play and 7-5 overall in its print edition, but now shows UW at 5-4 and 7-5, which makes a lot more sense.

— The Pullman Daily News continues its look at Pac-12 running backs, hitting on UW in this edition.

— Eighty seven percent of Phil Steele’s readers think Nebraska will beat UW.

— A Utah schedule anaylsis from Ted Miller.

— Scout.com has updated its bowl projections with dates and times, but still doesn’t include UW.

All for now.
