QB ratings, former Huskies, and more. …

— ESPN.com has been examining all week how college teams in NFL towns manage to thrive. Here’s today’s full story on UW from Ivan Maisel.

— This preview of Puyallyup High includes an update on Joshua Garnett’s recruiting, though stating again he plans to wait until close to signing day.

— Former UW QB Cody Pickett has been named as a head basketball coach at a high school in Idaho. Here’s a story I wrote on Pickett in March in which he talked about his plans to become a coach.

— ESPN.com’s Ted Miller puts the Huskies in the wait-and-see grouping of Pac-12 quarterbacks this year.

— A Stanford blog offers a quick look at UW.

— The College Football Matrix says teams that win six games in a regular season, as UW did last year, often improve the next season.

— Miller also wraps up the latest on the Oregon front while Eugene Register-Guard columnist George Schroeder says the school is drowning itself in silence.

— The NFL apparently may go to a full-season package of Thursday night games, which would obviously provide some stiff competition for the Pac-12’s new contract, that calls for four Thursday night games a year.

— Looks like UCLA is losing OL Stanley Hasiak for academic reasons. Hasiak also seriously considered UW before signing with the Bruins.

All for now.
