Husky Stadium update

We have a story in our Saturday paper that provides a bit of an update on the Husky Stadium renovation, focusing specifically on the finances involved.

As the story notes, UW is selling naming rights to many parts of the stadium to help pay the bills. This is a common tactic, not only in college sports but in all of college life (think of all the libraries that have a name attached of the person who donated the money, etc.). You can read the full menu here.

Also revealed in the story is that UW has commitments for $41 million of the $50 million in private funds it hoped to raise by the end of the renovation in the fall of 2013. The goal was to raise $25 million by the start of the renovation this fall, so UW is ahead of the curve. It has $11 million in cash-in-hand.

The school plans to go live with a web site in the middle of August that will feature all pertinent information about the renovation, such as drawings and proposed ticket prices.
