Thursday afternoon notes — UWTV fan promotion, SI’s pick on the Huskies, and more

I’ve braved the freeway to make it to UW — almost the toughest part of all of this anymore — and waiting for Washington’s practice this afternoon to begin. In the meantime, a few notes and links to pass along. …

— UWTV is running a promotion for its series called “Greatest Moments at Husky Stadium” in which the winner will get to be an extra in a shoot, dressed in full UW football gear, as the network films a shot of the “team” running through the tunnel at Husky Stadium. “Team” is in quotes since the real UW football team will not be involved. But the fan will get a chance to suit up and be a part of the show, says the press release here. More details here.

— A pre-trial hearing for UW defensive end Josh Shirley that had been set for today has been delayed until Oct. 4 (details on the background here).

— The Times is hosting a live chat with former UW center Ed Cunningham Friday at 11 a.m.

— If you’re aching for some football tonight, Pittsburgh and Philadelphia are on FOX at 5 p.m. Seattle time. That means a chance to see former Husky Daniel Te’o-Nesheim play for the Eagles. This story from a few days ago says he’s in a fight to stay on the roster.

— ESPN.com’s Ted Miller said in a chat today that if the Huskies can win at Nebraska it will officially mean that UW is back.

— Finally, Sports Illustrated’s college football preview issue is out and the magazine picks UW to tie with Oregon State for third in the Pac-12 North at 4-5 and finish 6-6 overall. SI picks Stanford and Oregon to tie for the North title at 8-1 but Stanford to win the tiebreaker and then beat Arizona State in the Pac-12 title game. It has Cal at 2-7 and WSU at 0-9 in the North. Also, SI tabs Steve Sarkisian as the “Coach on the Rise” and Alameda Ta’amu and Quinton Richardson as “Players to Watch.”
