Monday press conference notes, and Sarkisian video

The first Monday press luncheon of the season is in the books.

Below you can see the video of Steve Sarkisian’s opening statement, in which he touched on most of the key personnel questions facing the Huskies as they prepare for Saturday’s opener against Eastern Washington.

Among the highlights:

— Sarkisian said that senior WR Cody Bruns will redshirt this season due both to personal and strategic reasons. Bruns has missed a few practices to attend to details related to the death of his father last month. Also, since he has a redshirt year available, he can sit out this year and return next season to add some experience after the departures of Jermaine Kearse and Devin Aguilar.

— He said he will use both punters — Kiel Rasp and Will Mahan.

— He said that while there will be lots of rotating of players at certain spots, that will not happen at quarterback declaring a decisive “no” when asked if there would be any thought of sharing time in any way at that position.

— He said it was too early to know if either Chris Polk, Johri Fogerson or Quinton Richardson will play this week and that they hoped to make a decision “internally” by Wednesday.

— He said there will be some tough decisions regarding redshirting true freshmen but said there are some that will obviously play — Kasen Williams, Austin Seferian-Jenkins, etc.

I’ll have some more notes and quotes later.
