Thursday links — Live chat at noon, Huskies at the halfway point, and more

We’ll start off with the usual Thursday note that we’ll have our usual Thursday live chat at noon today. Should be able to find a few things to chat about. …

Next, some big news coming out of Stanford this morning that starting safety Delano Howell — who has 25 tackles this year and is regarded as one of the leaders of the defense (and is also the younger brother of former Husky Dan Howell) — is out for the game with a hand injury. That puts Stanford without two defenders for this game who were on a lot of pre-season all-conference lists with linebacker Shayne Skov already out for the year with a knee injury suffered against Arizona.

Now, onto the links. …

— For my story for today’s paper, I took a look at UW at the midway point of the season, handing out a few awards and reviewing a few (hopefully) interesting stats.

— Our weekly review of the 1991 season touches on a week seven win over Oregon.

Bud Withers talks to Don James about the changing nature of freshmen playing early.

— The San Francisco Chronicle profiles Keith Price.

— UW’s official site looks at the pairing of Price and Cort Dennison as roommates during fall camp.

— Also, UW’s Husky Stadium memorabilia sale is ongoing.

— The UW Daily says the Husky offense will try to maintain its rhythm against Stanford.

— Missed this earlier in the week, but the San Francisco Chronicle has a Stanford blog.

Chris Dufresne of the LA Times rates UW 25th this week.

— Lots of Stanford notes from the school’s official site.

— The school also has a feature on Stanford’s deep snapper.

Vince Grippi picks Stanford while expressing astonishment that the spread is as high as it is. (One theory on why the spread is so high is that Vegas has been getting killed with all of the top teams continually beating the spread and is setting spread even higher on favorites to try to entice more people to bet on the underdogs).

— ESPN.com’s Ted Miller picks Stanford 42-24 and also a list of things to watch this weekend.

Jim Moore continues his review of the 2008 season (not sure why I’m linking it either, but it is a helpful reminder of how much things have changed, if nothing else).

— Lots of good stuff in Rivals.com’s preview of the week in the Pac-12.

— UCLA and Arizona play tonight — here are five things to watch from ESPN.com.

— The Mountainn West is proposing a 16-team playoff.

— Grippi also has every relevant Pac-12 link you could want.
