Those of us who attended the ceremonial groundbreaking at Husky Stadium today also got a chance to take a peek inside the “old tunnel.”
The old tunnel is the one through which the visiting teams at Husky Stadium used to enter the field. The exact details on some of this are kind of hazy, so if someone out there knows better than I do, feel free to correct me. But from what I was told, this tunnel was used until 1927, when Hec Ed was built. There’s a stairwell that led to the visitinig locker rooms at the top, but that was capped when the addition was made on the south side in 1950.
It’s been essentially boarded up ever since, though people have been able to get in and out of it at times.
