Reports — Neuheisel, Erickson officially fired

A quick post to report that there are multiple reports that both UCLA’s Rick Neuheisel and ASU’s Dennis Erickson have officially been fired this morning.

Neuheisel will coach UCLA in the Pac-12 title game at Oregon Friday night, while Erickson will coach ASU in whatever bowl game it gets (likely the Vegas). UPDATE — Here’s the official release on Neuheisel’s firing. UPDATE TWO — Here’s the official ASU release on Erickson.

The situation appears murkier for WSU’s Paul Wulff. Cougar athletic director Bill Moos said on his weekly radio show this morning that no decision has yet been made but that one will come in the next 24 hours.

Here’s more on the Wulff saga from The Spokesman-Review.

The firings mean the Pac-12 will have at least three new coaches.

The firing of Neuheisel is his second by a conference school, though the first — at UW in 2003 — came for off-field reasons.

He is 20-27 in four years at UCLA, 12-22 in conference play (four wins coming against WSU). He was 33-16 in four years at UW but unable to replicate that success at UCLA — walking into a far different situation at UCLA, as well, where his biggest struggles revolved around the quarterback spot (he was basically handed both Marques Tuiasosopo and Cody Pickett when he landed at Washington).

I’ll have another blog post soon with some UW-related news and notes.
