UW opponents narrowing?

The results of today appear to just about guarantee that Stanford will get into the BCS, likely to the Fiesta to play Oklahoma State (assuming the Cowboys hold onto the big lead they hold as I type this).

That also goes a long way toward sending Washington to the Alamo Bowl on Dec. 29 in San Antonio against a Big 12 team. It’s expected that the Alamo will pick UW over Cal and Utah, the other two Pac-12 teams it is considering.

And that Big 12 team is likely one of just three — Oklahoma, Baylor or Kansas State.

K-State will only come into play if the Wildcats don’t get invited to the BCS — here’s a story on the K-State-BCS angle. K-State beat Iowa State 30-23 today.

If K-State does head to the BCS, then the Alamo is left to pick from Baylor and Oklahoma. Oklahoman columnist Berry Tramel speculated today that the Alamo might just pick Baylor as an in-state team with a big-name quarterback in Robert Griffin III. Baylor played its way into Alamo Bowl contention today with a 48-24 win over Texas.
Bowl bids aren’t expected to be announced officially until after 5 p.m. Sunday.
