Friday night links and notes

A few last notes and links to pass along before calling it good on a Friday night. …

— All of us who were at practice today saw one of the official visitors there this weekend — tight end Ian Taubler of Bullard High in Fresno. Here’s his Scout.com profile, listing him at 6-5, 250. He’s considered a soft commit to UCLA, having said after the firing of Rick Neuheisel that he would consider some other options. UW is obviously one of those options and Scout.com also reports he’ll take a trip to USC later.

— Scout.com lists the only other visitor for this weekend as defensive end Dylan Cozens of Scottsdale, Ariz. Here’s his profile. He’s already visited Boise State and Missouri and also has listed a trip to Utah in January, so he’s probably a little ways away from making a decision.

— There’s been a lot of interest in what might happen with cornerback Brandon Beaver of Dominguez High in Compton, Calif. (where he’s a teammate of DL Damion Turpin, who committed earlier this week). ESPN.com’s Greg Biggins reports in an Insider story that Beaver will visit UCLA this week, in part due to the presence of former UW assistant Demetrice Martin. Beaver is quoted saying that: “Coach Martin was a big reason why I liked Washington so much,” Beaver said. “I was basically a lock for Washington just last week but with Coach Martin gone, I don’t know any more. I still like Washington a lot, it wasn’t just Coach Martin, it’s a good school and I like Coach [Steve] Sark[isian] and I had a great visit there. I’m curious who the new DB coach is and they told me soon after the bowl game they’ll have a guy so that’s good.” He also says he may visit Utah and Georgia in January and is unsure when he will commit.

— Martin was also UW’s lead recruiter on WR Jaydon Mickens of Dorsey High in Los Angeles. He as among those who visited the weekend of the Apple Cup. Biggins reports that Mickens, who was an early commit to USC before apparently being a victim of the numbers game there, now has a wide open list and may also consider UCLA.

— CBSSports.com’s Bruce Feldman writes about the changes in Pac-12 recruiting due to UCLA’s new hires.

In some non-recruiting notes. …

.— Former Husky QB Damon Huard shared some thoughts on the Alamo Bowl and Robert Griffin III in an interview on KING-5.

— ESPN.com has separate blog entries set up now for every bowl. Here’s the one for the Alamo Bowl.

— If you’re headed to the game, there’s lots of useful stuff here in a fan’s guide to the Alamo Bowl from Seattle Weekly.

— Yahoo.com offers more proof that this will be Griffin’s last college game with a report that his parents are interviewing agents.

— CollegeFootballPoll.com offers this preview of the game.

All for now.
