Friday links — Huskies hitting the field early

It’s a quick turnaround for the Huskies today as they will hit the practice field at 10 a.m., beginning a four-day stretch of early practices.

So little time to waste to get on with a few notes and links. …

— Here’s my story for today’s paper, a follow-up on the news of the day before about Demetrice Martin leaving and how it will impact the team for the next few weeks.

— UW has announced that its practices in San Antonio will be closed to the public and media..

— With the Alamo Bowl nearing, probably worth linking again the game’s official web site that includes all the information on official events, tickets, etc.

Steve Sarkisian was on with Jim Moore and Kevin Calabro yesterday on ESPN 710 Seattle. You can listen here.

— UW’s official site wrote about Keith Price.

— It’s looking more and more like Jake Locker could get his first start Sunday against the Colts.

— Former Husky Kavario Middleton and Montana will be in action in an FCS semifinal tonight against Sam Houston State. Here’s a recent story on Middleton.

Bud Withers grades the new Pac-12 coaching hires and finds something to like in all of them.

Jon Wilner picks UW to beat the spread against Baylor.

Ted Miller breaks down some of the high points of a lengthy Larry Scott profile, including news on the men’s basketball tournament.

— Miller also rounds up all of Jim Mora’s staff moves at UCLA.

— USC left tackle Matt Kalil is turning pro. Still no word yet on Matt Barkley.

— Also looks like Stanford guard and Bellevue High alum David DeCastro is entering the NFL.

John Henderson rips Arizona State’s hiring process.

Dan Bickely also wonders about the Graham hire.

— Rivals.com with an interesting look at how teams use their bowl practices (and I have to admit, the info about 15 practices is news to me — I’ll have to check on that).

— Lots of headlines from Dr. Saturday.
